A little late...

It's Wednesday....I'm just now posting my weekend updates last weekend. Sheesh. First and foremost...I want to wish the BEST mom in the whole world a Happy Birthday! It was yesterday. Again...a little late.

Our weekend was jam packed with stuff. We were so busy! Here is a little breakdown.

Saturday: Walked in a 5K with my mom. It was to raise awareness for Ovarian cancer. I posted about my mom's friend here. It was a very humbling experience. When I saw how many survivors were there...I was floored, it made me want to cry happy tears. But that was the whole purpose for the race, to raise awareness so that more women who have the symptoms go to the doctor. It did rain on us in the last mile and when I say rain I mean it poured. We thought we were going to make it without getting wet, but right when we passed to 2 mile marker the skies opened up and let it all out. But we finished! After we went home and changed into dry clothes we went to breakfast and then my mom treated up to a day at the spa. It was the best pedicure ever!! Thanks mom!

Saturday Night: Celebrity sighting #2! So a couple of weekends ago we saw some of the Chicago Bears players at Ruth's Chris. On Saturday night we went to Al Bernait's in Dallas to celebrate my mom's birthday. A couple of tables away from us I noticed that groups of young girls kept stopping at this table. They were all very giddy and laughing. When the third group of girls stopped at that table I said "ok, that's someone famous." But his back was to me and I couldn't see him. When he stood up and turned our way my mom said "that's Jake the bachelor!" It was! I couldn't believe it. If I was a fan of The Bachelor and had any interest in him at all I probably would have gone over to get a picture or something, but I honestly did not care. ha!

Sunday: Hunter spent most of Sunday helping his mom finish her garden shed. I watched The Boys whoop up on the Texans.

And that was our weekend. Before I know it I will be posting about this weekend!

This week's Show Us Your Life tour takes us through Master Bedrooms. I have to admit that I have not paid enough attention to ours. I am planning on painting in the next few weeks. I have picked out a color that is just a lighter version of what we have in the living room. It's almost a light khaki. Here is a picture standing at the doorway.

We got our furniture at Rooms To Go when we got married. I love the look of it, but is has started chipping after only three years. We are always window shopping for new ideas, and I think next time around we are going to get something that has more of a farmhouse look.

I do love the blue that we have in there right now, but I 'm getting a little board. I found this set at Bed Bath and Beyond. What do you think? Of course I would have to add some kind of accent color with it!

I can't wait to see all of the other Master bedrooms and get ideas!

Thanks for stopping by,

It's Friday...and I couldn't be more excited! This week went by super slow! Friday means five question Friday with Mama M.!

1. If you could speak with a different accent, what would it be (i.e Australian, Scottish)?
It would be a toss up between Australian and Irish.

2. Can you fall asleep anywhere? (i.e floor, couch, deck)
Absolutely! I can fall asleep anywhere, anytime of the day. I can fall asleep after drinking a double shot latte from Starbucks. I should probably get that checked out. ha!

3. Do you use public restrooms? If so, do you sit on the toilet?

I do use public totally grosses me out and I NEVER sit on the toilet!

4. If you were stuck in an elevator for 24 hours, what celebrity would you most want to be stuck with?
That's a no brainer! Hands down, don't even have to think about it....

I would definitely want to be "stuck" with Leo and his sexy brow furrow! hey, a girl can dream right? Although it wouldn't really be "stuck" for me, I would totally be in heaven!

5. Where did you & your significant other go on your 1st date? We went to a sweet little Italian restaurant in the historical part of our little town. It was actually and old house that was turned into a restaurant. We still go there every once in a while!

Have a great weekend!

Big Night in My House

Tonight is a big night at my house. As much as I hate to admit how much I watch TV in the Fall, I just can't help myself. I have been waiting all Summer and it's finally here....the season premier of Grey's Anatomy AND Private Practice! OMG! I can hardly sit still! Did you watch the season finale of Grey's? I felt like I wasn't going to make it! It was sooo intense.

While we are on the subject of TV, I have a confession to make. I swore that I would never watch these crazy people but a couple of weekends ago I was cleaning house and there was a Jersey Shore marathon on. It was a train wreck and I. could. not. turn away. I even have my favorite characters now! ha!

Thanks for stopping by~

No Bueno

I have been feeling a little under the weather the past couple of days. I suffer from...dum dum dum... migraines. If you get them, then you feel my pain. I get usually get a couple of migraines every month. I can usually my prescription medication for them and be on my way, but this last one put me down. It was sooo bad. I had to call in to work yesterday which I never have to do. I hate being at home sick! I feel like the whole day is wasted. But I do feel a little better today after about 15 hours of sleep. ha! This was me this morning:

Hope you are having a better day then me!

It's Monday again. It really does come too fast. I'm pooped from the busy weekend that we had and I'm really dragging today. Hunter spent all day Saturday and most of Sunday building this garden shed for his mom.

Isn't it so cute? It looks more like a little playhouse that I would have loved to have when I was 5! My mother-in-law is a Master Gardner and her backyard is amazing. I will post more pictures of the little house when it's done and she has planted around it. Saturday night we went to see the Sound of Music musical. It was sooo cute! We went to dinner before the show to Ruth's Chris. I noticed these guys sitting at a table next to us when we walked in. They were dressed in jeans and t-shirts and I thought that was a little weird considering where we were. I didn't really pay much attention to them until one of the waiters went over to get them to sign a plate. I asked my dad if he knew who they were, and he said "oh yeah, that's Jay Cutler, the QB for the Bears". What???? It was 4 Chicago Bears players who were int town to whoop the Cowboys' little behinds, in which the succeeded! So that's my cool story from the weekend. Have a great Monday, I'm off to the coffee pot.

P.S. I wanted to send a shout out to all of the new followers. I love to "meet" new blogging friends and visit your blogs!

Five Question Friday!

It's a big blogging Friday for me....Show Us Your Life with Kelly, Friendship Friday with Lauren, AND 5QF with Mama M.! I heart Fridays! Now on to the million dollar questions!

1. What is the first nightmare you remember?
The first nightmare that I remember having involved and rocky cliff and a snake popping out of a cave and biting me. Scary stuff, I know. Especially when you're five years old!

2. Even if you're not a sports fan, what's your favorite sport to play/watch?
I LOVE football. I like to watch football, but I really love the season. It starts getting cold outside, it's a great time to socialize with your friends, and it brings out the spirit in me. I am a Cowboys fan, I used to not be, but something about living here for 10 years just brought it out. Cowboys fans

are infectious!

3. If you could pull off one piece of trendy fashion, what would you want it to be (jeggings, hats, thigh high boots, etc.)?
Definitely leggings! I think that are so cute...on other people. I tried some on last Fall and it made me throw up in my mouth a little. I totally disgusted myself! ha! My squishy stomach and big thighs did not thank me for putting them through that embarrassment!

4. Did you make good grades in school?
What do you consider "good"? ha! Just kidding. I did fair. My social life was way more important to me at the time. If i could go back now, I would probably be less interested in my social life and make straight A's. My future kids will not have social lives, they will be geniuses! We will just leave it at that.

5. What magazines do you subscribe to?

I don't subscribe to anything. But I do have my favorites. I can't live without my causal dose of Hollywood trash in US weekly and I NEVER miss an issue of Southern Living. Nice combo huh?

Thanks for stopping by,

Happy Girl & Show Us Your Life!

I am a happy girl today because the Pumpkin Spice Latte is back at Starbucks! This means the beginning of Fall and the holiday season! Yay!

I'm also happy that Kelly over at Kelly's Korner brought back Show Us Your Life!! This week is LIVING ROOMS- so here is mine. We have one big room that is our living room, dining room, and kitchen. I have really enjoyed the "open" concept, but I think is our next house I will enjoy a little separation between the rooms :)

This is the view from our front entry.
This is the view from the dining area. In the three years that we have lived there we have collected more and more decorations, definitely a work in progress.
This is from the other angle of the dining room. We just recently moved our TV from above the mantle to the TV stand. It's so much easier to watch without looking up. We got the big mirror at Kirkland's during a great sale and I found the little topiary trees at Michael's for $7!

Thanks for stopping by to see my living room! Have a great weekend!

Oh My Apricot!

I just discovered the best thing that ever happened to skin. Not just my skin, but skin all around the world.

Yes ladies (and gentlemen, if you are out there). I am talking about the one and only St. Ives Apricot scrub. I am in love. I know, I know, I fall in love with everything. But this time I'm for real. I have recently been trying to convince myself that I do not need $25 shampoo and $70 moisturizer (thanks Mom and Dad!). The convincing wasn't going too well until I stumbled upon this apricot holiness. It's less than $5/ gigantic tube and man alive it works wonders! I know this stuff has been around since before I was a twinkle in my dad's eye, but i have one question for you, why am I just know being introduced?

Dewey vs The Pumpkin

Last weekend I got all of my Fall decorations out and started decorating. I put these little pumpkins out by the fireplace. I guess I should preface this by saying that Dewey is scared to death of anything new that we bring to the house. Anything! So I put out the little pumpkins and...he didn't freak out like I thought he would. He walked over to them, but didn't get real close. He was sniffing the air as he stretched out as far as he could reach without actually touching the pumpkins.

He got a little closer....
a little closer...

Until finally his nose touched the pumpkin and made it move. At that point Dewey ran in the opposite direction faster than I have ever seen him move! It was so funny. Hunter and I watched him do the same thing over and over for about 30 minutes! He was cracking us up!

Teal Toes!

I saw Megan's post about This really touched me because although I knew that September was Ovarian Caner month, this is something that I can participate in and actually show my support for everyday. Last year one of my best friend's mom's, D, was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer. Coincidentally, D, happens to be my mom's best friend. Does that make sense? I didn't think so. I am always sad for anyone who is given the news that they have cancer, but Ovarian cancer is a beast of it's own. It's so scary when you hear of someone who has this silent aggressive form of cancer. We were all very scared for D but she is a trooper and came out stronger than ever. I will be honest with you, I wasn't that aware of ovarian cancer until it hit so close to home. The idea behind Teal Toes is that it will spark questions from those that see your bright toes! Then you can start spreading the word! Now I realize why we all have to work together to raise awareness. My mom and I are doing a 5K Ovarian Cancer Walk at the end of this month and I will definitely be sporting my teal toes and fingernails for D and for all of the other women who have fought this battle!

Why raise awareness?
~Too many women with ovarian cancer do not get diagnosed until their cancer has spread. Their survival rate is 45%.
~The survival rate improves greatly - to 93 percent - if the cancer is diagnosed at an early stage before it has spread. Only 19 percent of ovarian cancer cases are diagnosed at this local stage.
~Approximately 75 percent of ovarian cancer cases are diagnosed at an advanced stage after the cancer has spread beyond the ovary.
This information is from the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance.

Five Question Friday!

It's already Friday! I am totally doing my happy dance right now. Maybe one day if you're lucky I will post a video of such dance, but not today. You need time to prepare yourself for that. ha!

1. Do you feel guilty spending money on yourself?
Yes, yes I do. I really try hard not to buy something unless I need it. I stress, try really hard. I have purchased a few things for our house in the last couple of weeks. I LOVE Halloween and when they start putting out the decorations I can't help myself. I bought a few things last week and there is one more purchase that I am going to make. I saw this black wreath with purple glitter at World Market and fell in love.

But since it's for my house, it doesn't count, right?

2. How well do you know your neighbors?

I will admit that I do not know my neighbors very well. I was really close to my next door neighbor and she moved! Since then I guess I have had a little chip on my shoulder. I should probably get over it and get out there to get to know my neighbors better!

3. What age are you looking forward to being?

I am looking forward to retiring! ha! I know that's a long way off for me, but it seems really nice!

4. Do you get excited when the mail comes? Why?

I do get excited when the mail comes. I don't really know why because all that's ever in the mailbox is bills! It's an unexplained phenomenon!

5. What is your earliest childhood memory?

I always think that I remember things, but I think I just remember seeing pictures of things and then my mind fills in the blanks. I think that one thing that I really do remember is my Dad buying me this Barbie that I wanted when I was like 2.

Have a great weekend!

turkey burgers & vampires

Over the holiday weekend I really wanted to grill burgers. I have been craving a big juicy cheeseburger for like a week now. I have resisted the temptation and my thighs thank me. Instead of making the real thing last weekend I decided I was going to try a recipe that I found for Buffalo Chicken Burgers, sounds healthy right? I didn't have ground chicken but I did have ground turkey, so I tweaked the recipe a little and used ground turkey on whole wheat buns. They were actually really good.

In other exciting news, one of my favorite shows returns tonight for the Fall season.

Can we say guilty pleasure? Yes please! This is the second season and it looks like it is going to be soooo good! I can't wait!

Fast Forward

I really don't like to wish time away, but I could really use the remote to life right now so I could just hit the fast forward button. My morning started off bad when I locked myself out of my house. Yes, you guessed it, no car keys. Hunter was already long gone to work. I had to call my mom at 6:45 am, who is NOT a morning person and who lives 30 minutes away to come over to let me in my house so that I could leave for work. It would have been fine on a normal day, but not today.

Because of this monsoon that we are having, the normal 30 minute drive took my poor mom 2 hours! So for two hours I sat in my hot garage pondering life. I couldn't use my phone because it was almost dead and I wanted my mom to be able to call me if she ran into any trouble. So I just sat alone with my thoughts. That is never a good thing because my thoughts go wild. ha! I st started worrying about my mom coming in the bad storms, I thought that I was going to end up on that show "I survived". I have been accused once or twice of being dramatic, but hey, I can't help it! I felt so bad that she had to come all the way out there in the rain and traffic because I'm an idiot. ha! She finally got there and let me in and I was off to work in my arm floaties and snorkel. I arrived 2 hours later because the highways were shut down due to flooding. I really did consider turning back around and going home throwing on my favorite stretchy pants and calling it a day. But my conscience got the best of me. I hope your morning was better than mine!

It's no secret that I love to shop. Lately I have been trying not to shop SOOO much. I can always come up with a really good reason as to why I really need something. Over the weekend Hunter and I were out cruising the Labor Day sales and we stumbled upon this
Don't you just love it? It was on sale for a REALLY good deal and we have been saying for a while that we need a new kitchen table, so we bought it! We spaved! In other words, we were spending to save! so we got it home and set it up, then we decided that with the pretty new table, we needed a pretty new light fixture, and new paint, and....well you get the picture. So we spent the weekend arranging and rearranging and Spaving!

Happy September!

There are only 21 days until the first official day of Fall! I am sooooo glad to be out of the 100+ degree weather already! I thought that I would share with you some of the things that I will be FALLING for this FALL! ha!

My favorite Fall/Winter drink:

I am totally crushing on these boots and trying to justify to myself why I need them. I'm in love.

What better to pair with my new boots than a pair of skinny jeans! Disclosure: I loathed skinny jeans until I actually put a pair on. I love them now. I really only wear them in the cold weather with boots.
How cute is this open front cardigan? I think I need one in every color!

And last but not least, my favorite Fall scent from Bath & Body Works, Pumpkin Patch! I have the candles, the wall plug-ins, and a scent portable for my car! Can we say obsessed? ha!
I hope you are all as excited as I am about Fall!
