Four Generations

This past weekend my Grandma and Great Grandma came into town for a weekend visit. It was so nice to spend time with both of them. Saturday we spent all day at the town square. W ate lunch at my favorite tea room and just browsed the shops. There was a festival going on for the college also. It was Parents weekend. So the square was just buzzing with people and things going on.

My great grandma (Mema) started the day with this Mimosa. I just thought it was the cutest little bottle of champagne ever. Her favorite shop is the old ice cream parlor on the square, she loves the authentic chocolate soda there. So of course I had to get a picture of her and my little brother with the sidewalk sign outside of the shop.

That night for dinner we went to an old steakhouse that my Mema and Grandma love to go to when they are visiting. It is in a very small neighboring town and there is a little history to it. So the legend has it that Bonnie and Clyde came to the town to rob the bank that is next door to the restaurant. Little did they know that the bank had actually been turned into the town hardware store. So they came in to rob a bank and got nothing. The little steakhouse is actually famous now. They have newspaper clippings about Bonnie and Clyde posted everywhere. They have pictures of past Presidents and celebrities who have been there too! It is always amazing to me when I go into this little whole-in-the wall restaurant and see pictures of celebrities who have been there. Here is a pictures of my brother and I with Grandma and Mema.

We are so blessed to have both of them in our lives. Some people don't even have one grandmother and we have two very special ones! I am so thankful for them everyday!

Show Us Your Life- Favorite Dessert

This week's Show Us Your Life edition was hard. I LOVE LOVE all things sweet. I have to keep the monster locked up inside of me because if I let it loose, I will go crazy eating anything sweet that I can get my hands on. I decided to share a recipe that I made not too long ago for banana bread. It has many different faces, it can be a dessert or breakfast or just a snack. So here it is...

Go Bananas Bread!

What you need:
2 sticks butter (the real stuff)
1/2 cups sugar, plus 2 tablespoons sugar (yes, it makes a difference!)
3 eggs
4 mashed bananas (must be ripe or a little overripe)
4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 cups sour cream

Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Grease bundt pan, you can use regular loaf pans in you prefer
Cream butter and sugar together. Add eggs one at a time, beating for a few seconds after each addition. Add mashed bananas and beat.Combine dry ingredients in a separate bowl.
Add dry ingredients and sour cream alternately to the mixing bowl. Beat well until all combined.
Pour into bundt pan and bake for 1 hour 10 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Invert on a cooling rack and allow cake to cool slightly before slicing.
Now slap a little (or a lot) of butter on and enjoy!

Beware: You can't eat just one piece!

My Favorite Things Thursday!

I come from a long line of Clinique-wearing ladies. I wear it, my Mom wears it, even my Grandma and Great-Grandma wear it! I remember my mom taking me to get my first "real" makeup. I was probably in the 8th grade. It was so awesome to sit in the makeup chair and let the Clinique lady tell me how to apply and what colors to use, they are always so friendly. They had me at "hello". A couple of years ago I decided to try the Bare Minerals products. I didn't really care for the eye shadows and blushes but I love, love, loved the mineral powders! They cover everything and make your skin tone look so even. I felt a little like I was betraying my beloved Clinique, so I would go back and forth-that is until this past weekend. Clinique came out with a loose mineral powder that is just as good as Bare Minerals-I promise! I love it and I will never cheat on Clinique again. Try it-it will change your life forever!

It's Fall Y'all!

THIS is my absolute favorite season. I love it when it starts cooling down and getting my Fall decorations out! I love the way Fall smells: pumpkin spice, cranberry, cinnamon. I found the best scent ever a couple of weekends ago and my whole house smells like Fall! It is Yankee Candle: Apple Spice Potpourri. I can't wait to make a big pot of chili and bake pumpkin bread!
I love all of the fall colors too. I would love to travel to the Northeast for a Fall Foliage trip. I think that would just be amazing. Maybe next year. Happy Fall!

Hit me baby one more time

That's right. I went to see Britney Spears for the second time this year last Friday! My friend, Marcie, and I went when she came in March, our seats were a little high up but it was fun, but then we heard she was coming back in September and we were all over it! This time we were on the fourth row! Here is a glimpse of what we saw...

It was hands down one of the best nights in my life! We had a blast. We both suffered from post-Britney depression when it was over. Saturday night we went out on the town to celebrate my Mom's birthday. Her friends got us all a limo for the night. It was so much fun. We went to the big city for dinner and when we were headed back my mom decided she wanted to get a little crazy and go out to the college bars. I warned her...but she never listens. My parents and their friends didn't last long once we got to the "college" part of town. They called it a night. My mom has all of the pics from Saturday so as soon as she sends them to me, I will share. Needless to say, it's Tuesday and I'm still catching up from my crazy weekend.

Flu Shot

I have only had one Flu shot in my life. This year I decided to put my big girl panties on and get one at the urging of a few friends at work. Our regional office organized a day to have the Flu shot come to us, so we really had no excuse and with all of the H1N1 hype, I figured that I better get the regular flu shot to lessen my chances of getting sick. If you know me then you know that I DO NOT do blood/needles/or pretty much anything that has to do with anything medical. I hate going to the doctor, I hate getting shots, I literally go weak in the knees. Call me a baby...go ahead...but it's true. So getting me to the regional office today to get my shot was a miracle. A co-worker did take a picture of us getting our shots so there is proof :)
On a lighter note, I had WINE night with an old friend last night. It was great getting to see her and her kids. I worked at a pre-school for three years in college and her little boy was in my class from the time that he was 4 months old until I left. Then he was the ring bearer in my wedding, I just love that kid.

Isn't he a cutie? He just turned six and that blows my mind. He is such a big boy and he can read! We had a good time talking about old stories. She is one of those friends that we can not talk for a year and pick up right where we left off. I love friends like that!

Photography Post!

I love taking pictures. I shoot with a Nikon D60. I love it. I’m not brilliant at it yet, I am not a professional by any means, I am mostly self-taught. That’s why I would like to share what I do know because if I can do it, then anyone can do it!
My husband bought me my first Digital SLR camera for Christmas 2008 and it changed my life. Soon after, I took a 6 week course for beginner photographers with my mom at a local college. I learned a lot in that short period of time. The first thing that we discussed in class was the different settings. I still don’t have them all down, it’s a work in progress. I keep my setting on M (Manual) for the most part, and that is what I recommend to you. To get to the Manual setting just turn the dial on the top of your camera to the M. It’s pretty much the same on all cameras. When you have your setting on manual you control everything. I also keep my lens on manual, this means that I control the focus. To change the focus from Auto to Manual on your lens, just switch the button on the bottom of the lens from the A to the M. If you look at the picture below you can see at the very bottom right-hand corner where I am talking about. It can be difficult at first but I got the hang of it pretty quickly. I have learned the most by just taking my camera with me everywhere and shooting until my heart is content. In fact that is going to be my first official photography tip, turn your setting to manual go out today and take as many pictures as you can from as many different angles as you can possibly fajangle your body into, but please don’t hurt yourself. I’m not kidding…I’m sure you will come back with over 200 pictures and a sore rib or two. Report back here for more.

Exciting News!

If you have read any of my previous posts you may have noticed that I mention The Pioneer Woman when I post recipes. I love her blog, she cracks me up, and her recipes...my word. Since I started following her a few months ago I have made delicious things from scratch that I never thought I could, and now I'm chubby. I wish I could stop, but I just can't seem to find the will...please help. I have some exciting news! The Pioneer Woman has finished her cookbook (I can't wait to get my hands on that!) and she announced that she is going on a book tour and on that book tour she will be stopping here! I can't wait to meet her in person and tell her that she turned this girl into a homemade fool!

Rain, Rain, Go Away

*UPDATE* A long-time friend of mine is having her baby today! Please keep her and her family in your prayers for a safe delivery!

It has been raining here for almost four days straight. I am not one to complain about rain, I usually love rainy days but not when they interfere with my weekend. It rained all day Saturday and Sunday so I used this weekend to catch up on some things that I have been wanting to do around the house. I did some cooking too! I made chocolate chip cookies, you can't be stuck in the house all weekend without chocolate chip cookies! And since we were going to be stuck in the house all weekend I needed something for snacking so I whipped up some Guac! Saturday night I made a chicken recipe from The Pioneer Woman that won my heart. Sunday night I decided to get creative with some zucchini that I had laying around and I made "Zucchini Boats".
Aside from the rain it was a pretty good weekend. I organized a closet and my desk, which I never thought I would see the bottom of. And last night was a TV event at my house! It was the season finale of True Blood which was a heart stopper. The MTV VMA awards were also on where I got to see the new New Moon trailer, I died. Then I came back to life and watched it again. I can't WAIT until New Moon comes out!

Zucchini Boats

What you need:
1 zucchini cut in 1/2 long ways
1/2 lb. of lean ground beef (you can also use pork or chicken)
1/2 large onion, chopped
2 cloves minced garlic
1 Tbsp. virgin olive oil
1 can of tomato sauce
1 Tbsp. dried basil
1 Tbsp. dried Italian seasoning
1 Tbsp. oregano
1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese

Saute chopped onions and garlic in olive oil. Add meat to onion mixture and cook at medium high heat until brown. Drain. Add tomato sauce, basil, oregano, Italian seasoning, and salt and pepper to taste. Cook on medium heat for about 10 minutes. While you are cooking your meat and sauce mixture, cut zucchini in half long ways. Spoon out inside of zucchini leaving enough of the"insides" on the bottom so you do not see the peel. Lay each half facing up on a cookie sheet. Spoon meat/sauce mixture into the zucchini halves. Cook at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. Take out of oven and top with Parmesan cheese, cook for about 3 more minutes. When cheese is bubbly take out of the oven and Voila! I served to boats with spaghetti pasta with a little butter and garlic.

Thoughtful Thursday

I can't believe that it's already Thursday. This week has gone by super fast. I am dog sitting for my parents right now. That has been interesting. They have Dewey's brother and Dewey always goes to their house for sleepovers, but this time Dublin came to our house.

Dublin has been really good. He listens to me and has not had any accidents in the house. Dewey on the other hand...not so good. I don't know if it's because he's not used to having other dogs at our house, but he has been terrible. He steals toys (toys that he has no interest in normally), bites, and growls. He and Dublin always play together so well, so I don't know what's going on. He is a spoiled rotten little thing. So we will see how this all works out.

I will leave you with some of my favorite thoughtful words.

Be kinder then necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting their own battle.

Live simply, Speak thoughtfully, Love generously, care deeply.

Leave the rest to God.

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain.

Love it.

I Heart Three Day Weekends

It was a good three days off. A night out with the girls on Saturday, Labor Day Party on Sunday, and a day to rest on Monday. Notice I did not mention Friday. Friday was a disaster. Well it actually started on Thursday night when I went to get my hair done. My "regular" girl is out on maternity leave so she left me in the hands of her friend who she promised would take care of me...promise broken. All I was getting done was partial highlights and a bang trim. Disaster. I didn't have her style it because I was just going straight home, so I didn't really notice anything was wrong until the next morning. As I was drying my hair I noticed that my bangs were a little uneven then it got worse. At first I just thought no big deal I will just wear them back. When I put then back I realized that there was a black line across. It looked like I needed to get my roots done, not like I just got them done! I was so embarrassed. Luckily I called an old friend that started working at a salon near by. She definitely fixed me up and I thank her dearly for that, she just got a new customer out of me.
The rest of the weekend went well. Good friends, good food, and good drinks! I did cook a lot for the party so naturally I have a few injuries, a couple of burns and a sliced finger, but nothing to major! My mom made a great appetizer, no pictures, but here is the recipe...

Party Pinwheels

What you need:
2 cans of crescent rolls
1 lb. Breakfast sausage
8 oz. cream cheese
green onions, chopped (however many your little heart desires)

First brown the sausage and drain the grease. Mix sausage, cream cheese, and green onions until well blended. Open the crescent rolls and roll out flat, you will have 4 squares. Spread the sausage mixture onto the crescent rolls. You will use about 1/4 of the mixture on each square. Roll the crescent rolls up and cut into pinwheels. Lay out the pinwheels on a greased cookie sheet and bake according to the directions on the crescent rolls can. Enjoy! Be careful because they are addicting!

Favorite Things Thursday

First things first. If you know me, then you know that I am a Twi-Hard (Translation: so obsessed with Twilight that it's unhealthy). I can't help it, it is way beyond my control at this point. It's like a drug, a really good drug that you can't get enough of. It's "my on personal brand of heroin". Haha...I'm so funny. If you have watched the Twilight movie or read the book then you would know that line is from the book. Ahem, Moving on... Can Anybody please tell me if these two are really engaged? I saw it on the internet yesterday and did not buy it. But then last night I saw it again on Extra TV. And you know you can always trust Extra. :) I just want to know if it's true. They are living out the Twilight dream in real life!

Now on to more important things...MY favorite Things! This is an absolute highlight during my week...
I love going to Sonic at 2:00 and getting my large ice tea for less than a dollar! Of course I don't let myself indulge everyday which makes it even better when I do! You can get any fountain drink or slush for 1/2 off between 2- 4 pm. It's the best idea Sonic has ever had!
P.S. I finally got to watch my recorded episode or True Blood last night and Mary Mother of Jesus! I can't believe that they are going to make me wait TWO weeks for the season fianle!
